3. Why do I need a domain name?

A domain is like a rental home/apartment. It is where you reside. The name of the domain is your address and the hosting company is your rental management company. We do suggest a simple domain name so that your viewers can remember your address. Some people wish to spell a lengthy name to showcase their own business name but you need to think about your audience. People surf and browse hundreds of sites a day and if you have a short and or catchy name, it helps them remember you.

5. How does SHiNYMachine deal with search engines, meta tags, and levels of importance?

All of SHiNY Machine sites usually end up high on the list of search engines due to the usage of full coding of words in sites rather than using image graphics that search engine bots do not recognize. Therefore, meta tags are not necessary since the bots will see every single word as a search word potential. Also, we suggest linking your site to various other sites to increase traffic and presence. As a client, we will suggest more things to you and we will also implement strategies that really can't be simply explained to the layman.

6. What browsers does SHiNYMachine test on?

SHiNY Machine tests on all browsers after 2001, such as Internet Explorer 6 and 7 and 8, the entire Mozilla Suite and its children (Sea monkey etc).

7. How long will SHiNYMachine take to create a presence?

It all depends on you primarily. When can you have all the images and text ready to launch? Do you have a domain name? Do you have hosting? If you have a deadline, we will meet it but failure to launch on your date will never fall on us. It also depends on how large your site is. If you expect to have a large e commerce site running by December and it is November, you may have to readjust your expectations.

12. Will Flash cost more?

It depends, again, on what you need. It basically does cost more but simple animations may not run you that much more than a static site (all html).

13. How does SHiNYMachine bill for a site?

SHiNYMachine like most other companies bill in thirds. First payment due on signing of Agreement, second payment due on completion of comprehensive graphics that depict your site and their pages, and third payment on completion of website. We do not bill on launch since some companies withhold their site until they are ready to publish.

14. Are there maintenance or monthly costs from SHiNYMachine?

Usually, e commerce sites or large sites will be billed monthly for maintenance of the site and hosting.

15. What happens when the website is ready to go live?

We update the DNS numbers for you which means that we “tell the internet” to start going to your new website instead of the old one. This takes up to a day for it to become complete, especially when your website is a redesign. You may see your new site right away and then not again until tomorrow. Someone else may start seeing your new website with their ISP in a couple hours and it may stay that way but all together it takes roughly a full day to complete the propogation.
